Government Relief Reaches Liberated Parts of Lower Shabelle Region
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government has stepped up humanitarian operations in newly liberated parts of Lower Shabelle, delivering urgently needed food aid to families emerging from years of militant control.
The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) said five trucks of food supplies reached Sabiid, Canole, and Bariire, towns recently retaken from Al-Shabaab. The delivery marks one of the first major relief efforts in the area since government forces regained control.
“For years, these communities have suffered under insecurity and isolation,” SoDMA said in a statement. “This mission is part of our continued commitment to help families rebuild their lives after terrorism,” it added.
Officials said the assistance is designed to ease immediate hunger while laying the groundwork for long-term recovery, including the revival of farming, trade, and education.
Local authorities reported that the arrival of government aid has boosted confidence among returning residents and encouraged displaced families to come home.
The operation forms part of Somalia’s broader stabilization campaign, which pairs military progress with humanitarian support to restore normalcy in liberated regions. The government has pledged to sustain relief and reconstruction programs as stability slowly takes root across southern Somalia.
