Governor of Galgadud assassinated in Mogadishu
Governor of Galgadud Mohamed Dahir Sheikh Ali and another person who is said to be his brother were killed last night in Mogadishu.
The deceased were attacked by unknown gunmen in Arafad, Yaqshid district, Banadir region. The assailants used the tactic of drive and shoot move spraying heavy gunshots on the victims.
Eyewitnesses claim to have heard loud sounds of gunfire that rented the air at once and later found two dead bodies where the incident took place.
Security forces that arrived on the scene of the crime carried out search though the attackers are believed to have escaped from the area.
The deceased governor was in Mogadishu for official business.
In a similar incident, armed men gunned down a ‘peacemaker’ Somali elder in Darkenley district in Banadir region.
The departed was known as Gedi Mohamud Ahmed aka Gedi Fardiye.
The victim was on his way to his house from a night prayer from one of the local mosque when he was shot.
Peacemaker Ahmed is alleged to be one the founders of Garasbaley location situated in the outskirt of Mogadishu and is said to be a well known figure in the area.
Security officers who reached the area carried out search though no one is arrested so far for the murder.
