Shock as pregnant woman dies after falling into 90-meter deep well in Garasbaley

GOOJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: Shock engulfed Garasbaley village in the outskirts of Mogadishu yesterday afternoon, after a pregnant woman died after falling into a well estimated to be 90 meters deep. 

Residents of the IDP camp where the woman resided say that the woman, identified as Asli Mudey, slipped into the deep well as she was collecting firewood, adding that the well was not visible enough to the eye as it had remained unused for a long period of time.

Efforts to save the life of the woman by locals and Garasbaley authorities proved futile as the rescue mission was hampered by lack of necessary equipment required for such a delicate task.

The husband to the late Asli Mudey said that his wife had left behind four children.

While addressing the media, the Garasbaley administration has said that measures were in place to seal the well to avoid a repeat of what happened yesterday.

The severe drought that has hit many parts of the country has forced many Mogadishu residents to flock to its outskirts in search of a better life.
