Hagadera Police Chief, Driver Killed in Suspected IED Blast Near Dadaab
GOOBJOOG NEWS | DADAAB, Kenya: The police commander in charge of Hagadera and his driver have been killed after their vehicle struck a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) along the Saretho-Dadaab Main Supply Route in northeastern Kenya, raising fresh security concerns along a key transport corridor near the Somali border.
The incident occurred at around 6 a.m. on Friday, when a Toyota Land Cruiser attached to Hagadera Police Station struck the explosive device. Both men died at the scene, while the blast extensively damaged the vehicle, according to reports.
Security personnel secured the scene and launched a follow-up operation. However, the circumstances surrounding the explosion remained unclear, and authorities had not publicly identified those responsible.
Some local reports pointed to suspected Al-Shabaab involvement, but no verified claim of responsibility or official confirmation of the group’s role was available at the time of publication.
The Saretho-Dadaab route is an important corridor for security operations and the movement of supplies in Garissa County, which borders Somalia and has experienced repeated attacks targeting security personnel and other vehicles.
Further details, including whether additional people were affected and whether the investigation had identified any suspects, were not immediately available.
