Hand grenade attack on troops injures two in Jowhar

A grenade thrown at Somali troops in Jowhar town has injured two Soldiers on Friday evening, according to residents.

 The bomb was hit at a place that armed government soldiers were guarding police station called “Baryar”

 The victims were injured in the blast were rushed to the hospital.

 “We’ve heard a bang of explosion followed by additional gunfire, when we came out we saw thre screaming soldiers on the ground those injured in the attack” resident man Nor Abdi Azziz said.

 “If you live in Somalia, you have to wait violence everytime “said Ismael Hassan a shopkeeper opposite where the blast rocked.

 The assailants escaped the scene after the blast.

 “The explosion was very heavy and we suspect it was carried out by the Islamists,” said government official, who requested to remain unnamed.

Jowhar is hosting state formation conference for Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions.

SNA and AMISOM took Biya-adde on Thursday from Al shabaab, the latest military gain against the militants who stepped up attacks on army bases over the past few months.

 Over the past year, anti government fighters have attacked government targets after being ousted from southern and central regions by Ethiopian-backed Somali troops in early 2007. 

Somalia has lacked an effective government since the 1991 ousting of Dictator Mohamed Siad Barre.
