Haruna appointed Somalia National Team head coach

Ugandan coach Haruna Mawa has been appointed the new head coach of the Somalia National football team.

Mawa’s appointment takes immediate effect as he is expected to leave Uganda for Mogadishu.

Mawa’s ability to groom young talents is the main reason Somalia considered him for the role.

He will be head coach of all Somalia national teams.

Mawa formerly of Sports Club Victoria University, will fly out this evening, via Rwandan Air, and is expected to arrive in Mogadishu on Sunday for official unveiling, alongside goalkeeper trainer Moses Oloya who is also a Ugandan.

The appointment Mawa came after disagreements erupted between the Somalia Football Federation and another Ugandan coach Mathias Lule who was initially handed the job.

Mawa becomes the third Ugandan to coach Somalia after George Ssemwogerere and Charles Livingstone Mbabazi.

Somalia is among the countries confirmed for the 2016 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Kenya scheduled to take place in November and Mawa will handle the side in his first assignment with the Horn of Africa nation.
