Himilo party sues the state over leader’s travel restriction
Himilo Party has sued the state for what it termed as violation of its chairman’s right to movement following a directive to bar him from traveling to Kismayu late last month.
The party said Sunday it had filed a case at the High Court in Mogadishu noting the decision to bar the former head of state was in contravention of the law and dignity of a former president.
Senator Ilyas Ali told a media conference in Mogadishu the party had sought legal recourse following the incident September 22 at Aden Adde Airport in Mogadishu. Himilo Party chairman and former president Sheikh Sharif Ahmed was barred from traveling to Kismayu September 22 to attend the inauguration of Jubbaland president Sheikh Sharif Ahmed.
“In light of the preservation of the dignity of the Somali nation, protection of the law of our country, and the dignity of the leaders of this country, the Himilo party has decided to do so,” Ali said.
