Hirshabelle president appeals for humanitarian aid in Beledweyne

GOOBJOOG NEWS | BELEDWEYNE: Hirshabelle president Ali Gudlawe Hussein has called on humanitarian organizations to assist victims of the flooding in Beledweyne.

The President who met representatives of the United Nations humanitarian organizations; the Food Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Food Program (FAO), United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA), United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) urged the organizations to urgently provide the affected the displaced persons with food, water, shelter and medicine.

The president briefed the representatives of the magnitude of the humanitarian situation in Beledweyne saying the floods have severely impacted the communities living in the area with most of them having been displaced from their homes.

The Somali National Army has already stepped in to evacuate most of the affected residents to safer grounds even as the government issues warning that the floods may continue due to ongoing rains and advised the residents to exercise caution.
