Horn Petroleum Partners With Vivo Energy to Expand Shell Lubricant Distribution in Somalia

GOOBJOOG NEWS | DUBAI: Horn Petroleum, part of Somalia’s Dahabshiil Group, has signed an agreement with Vivo Energy to distribute Shell-branded lubricants, expanding the company’s portfolio of petroleum products across Somalia.

The agreement, signed in Dubai by Horn Petroleum Managing Director Mahad Abdi Ali and Vivo Energy Vice President Karim Kermen, will give motorists, businesses and industrial customers greater access to Shell lubricants, the companies said.

The partnership adds an internationally recognised lubricant brand to Horn Petroleum’s existing fuel and energy operations and could strengthen its role in supplying products to Somalia’s growing transport and commercial sectors.

Vivo Energy, which distributes and markets Shell and Engen products in 29 markets, supplies fuels and lubricants to retail and commercial customers across sectors including road transport, construction, manufacturing, mining, power, aviation and marine operations.

Its lubricant range includes Shell Helix for passenger vehicles, Shell Rimula for heavy-duty engines, and Shell Gadus, Spirax and Tellus products used in industrial and machinery applications.

Vivo Energy says it operates about 4,200 service stations across its markets, alongside a commercial business supplying energy products to industries and large-scale customers.

The agreement broadens Horn Petrolium’s business that already includes fuel stations and wholesale petroleum operations in Somalia and Somaliland. The company also markets Horn Gas LPG, which Dahabshiil Group says is aimed at providing an alternative to charcoal for household cooking.

Lubricants are an important part of the wider petroleum supply chain, supporting vehicle fleets, generators, construction equipment, agricultural machinery and industrial operations. Reliable access to such products is particularly important in markets where road transport and diesel-powered equipment remain central to commercial activity.

The deal also reflects growing efforts by regional companies to establish partnerships with international energy brands as demand for fuel and related products expands across the Horn of Africa.

The agreement also provides Vivo Energy, another distribution channel for its Shell lubricant portfolio, while Horn Petroleum gains access to a global brand as it seeks to expand its presence in Somalia’s petroleum and energy-products market.
