Hussein Muhiadin Appointed El-Nino Health Response Director in Somalia

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Government’s Health and Human Service Ministry has announced the appointment of Dr. Hussein Abukar Muhiadin as the National Incident Manager for the El-Nino health response.

Dr. Muhiadin currently serves as the Executive Director of the National Institute of Health, a research institution under the ministry.

A letter from the ministry addressed to all government organizations, local organizations, United Nations organizations, and other stakeholders involved in the health sector, instructed them to work directly with Dr. Muhiadin.

The Ministry stated that the Federal Government is committed to enhancing the health system so as to provide better healthcare services and humanitarian services to Somali people affected by the El Nino rains which has caused widespread flooding.

Dr. Mohiuddin is now mandated to establish genuine cooperation with government agencies involved in emergency response and disaster management, particularly the National Disaster Management Agency, SODMA the lead agency for coordinating and implementing the national disaster management policy and strategy.

In his acceptance statement, Dr. Muhiadin expressed his gratitude for the trust and confidence bestowed upon him by the ministry and vowed to do his best to fulfill his duties.

He said he will work closely with all partners and stakeholders to ensure a timely and effective response to the health challenges posed by the El Nino crisis and at the same time called for more support and resources from the international community to help Somalia cope with the situation.
