GOOBJOOG NEWS | DJIBOUTI: The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has condemned a deadly attack by Al-Shabaab militants on the Jilacow Investigation Centre in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu.

Somali authorities said security forces swiftly repelled the assailants, killing them before they could cause further casualties. The government hailed the response as evidence of growing capability and resilience against extremist threats.

IGAD praised Somalia’s security forces for their “professionalism and courage,” saying their quick action prevented a larger tragedy. The bloc said the attack followed major gains by the Somali National Army in the Lower Shabelle region, including the killing of senior Al-Shabaab figures.

“This attack will not shake Somalia’s courage or our region’s resolve,” IGAD Executive Secretary Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu said in a statement. “IGAD stands firmly with the people and Government of Somalia in the fight against terror and in pursuit of lasting peace and stability.”

The regional bloc renewed its call for stronger regional and international cooperation to defeat terrorism and promote stability across the Horn of Africa.
