GOOBJOOG NEWS | DJIBOUTI: The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has welcomed a political agreement between Somalia’s federal government and the Somali Salvation Forum, calling it a milestone for reconciliation and stability.

IGAD Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu praised the deal as a “Somali-led and Somali-owned” process and urged continued dialogue on unresolved issues, saying compromise was vital for peace and democratic transition.

The agreement seeks to address political and electoral disputes that have long hampered Somalia’s fragile state-building efforts.

The consensus among rival groups is seen as a critical move in preparing the country for credible elections and easing recurring tensions between the central government and opposition factions.

Somalia has struggled with decades of conflict, and international partners have pressed leaders to reach inclusive political settlements.

IGAD, which played a key role in past Somali peace processes, said it would continue to support the government and opposition in advancing unity and development.
