GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s immigration chief Mustafa Duhulow has launched a training programme to strengthen cybersecurity and modernise border management, calling it vital to protecting public trust as the country expands digital services.

The 10-day course brings together 20 officers of the Immigration and Citizenship Authority (ICA) for advanced instruction in internet security, migration data management and the use of new technology in service delivery.

Duhulow said the initiative would shield critical databases from illegal access and cyberattacks while improving efficiency in services such as passport issuance and biometric data storage. “Cybersecurity is the backbone of modern data management,” he told participants.

The programme is supported by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Swiss Embassy in Somalia, which have both provided training and equipment to ICA.

Duhulow praised their partnership but stressed ICA’s own commitment to aligning Somalia’s systems with international standards.
