GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The Government of India has dispatched 10 tons of humanitarian aid to Somalia, signaling support for the Somali people as the country battles protracted conflict, climate change, and economic hardship.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the delivery in a statement shared by its spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on X (formerly Twitter). The aid package includes essential medicines, surgical equipment, hospital supplies, and modern medical tools.

“India’s humanitarian assistance to the people of Somalia continues,” the statement read. “This latest shipment, weighing 10 tons, comprises critical medicines, surgical instruments, hospital necessities, and advanced medical equipment. The consignment has been dispatched.”

Somalia continues to reel from years of armed conflict, particularly with the Al-Shabaab and ISIS-linked insurgents, leaving many soldiers wounded and reliant on both domestic and overseas treatment. Compounding the crisis are outbreaks of disease and persistent droughts that have hit rural communities the hardest.

India’s support comes at a time when the Somali healthcare system is under immense strain, with limited resources to handle rising medical needs. The donation is expected to bolster ongoing humanitarian efforts and ease the burden on overstretched hospitals.

Authorities in Mogadishu have welcomed the assistance, viewing it as a vital gesture of solidarity from a long-standing international partner.
