Intelligence Agency to launch hotline to report crimes
Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency has launched 24-hour hotline to report crimes and terror related tip offs a move intended to promote the anti-terrorist across the country.
Somali government with AU has been struggling to fight Al-Shabaab which has carried out several deadly attacks in Mogadishu and other towns in the country.
The agency has established 911, which the public can use to report crimes.
The spokesman for ministry for security, Abdikamil Moalim Shukri said the hotline will enable the public to work hand in hand with the security forces.
“We feel that this will help with the relationship we have with the public,” he said.
Shukri have called on the public to refrain from making prank calls to the new emergency hotline and stressed that 911 should only be used for emergency.
“This number will be on 24 hours daily. All the information received will be recorded and treated confidentially. Anyone is free to give us information concerning insecurity,” Shukri said.
He urged residents to cooperate with the police to arrest criminals.
Al-Shabaab fighters were flushed out of Somalia’s capital city in 2011 but they capable of launching attacks against Somali government.
