GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia’s Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation and the NIS Foundation have agreed to establish a joint framework to support reconciliation, stabilization and drought recovery efforts in vulnerable communities.

The agreement followed a meeting in Mogadishu between the ministry’s Director General, Cabdulqaadir Elmi, and representatives of the NIS Foundation, led by its Somalia representative Kassim Gabowduale.

According to a statement from the ministry, the talks focused on strengthening cooperation between government institutions and civil society actors to resolve local disputes, promote social cohesion and enhance stabilization programmes in fragile areas.

Both sides agreed to develop a coordinated working mechanism aimed at accelerating reconciliation initiatives and improving support to communities affected by prolonged drought and insecurity.

The ministry said follow-up technical engagements would be held to translate the discussions into practical programmes, including dispute resolution efforts and community-based recovery initiatives.

Somalia has been grappling with recurring climate shocks and localised conflicts, which have strained already fragile regions and displaced thousands of people. Stronger coordination between government bodies and non-governmental organisations is critical to consolidating peace and reinforcing resilience in vulnerable communities.

The Interior Ministry said the partnership forms part of broader national efforts to promote stability, reconciliation and sustainable recovery across the country.
