IPU Assembly Opens in Geneva with Somalia Urging Support for Security, Humanitarian Efforts

GOOBJOOG NEWS | GENEVA, Switzerland: Somalia’s Second Deputy Speaker of the House of the People, Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, is leading a delegation from both houses of parliament to the 151st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva.
The high-level gathering brings together lawmakers from around the world to discuss ways to protect human rights and strengthen humanitarian action during times of global crisis.
Deputy Speaker Abshirow is expected to deliver an address highlighting Somalia’s recent progress in security and counter-terrorism, as well as ongoing reforms aimed at consolidating peace and stability.
He will also present Somalia’s perspectives on the assembly’s core themes, emphasizing the country’s commitment to upholding democratic values and protecting citizens’ rights amid post-conflict recovery.
The Somali delegation’s participation underscores the country’s growing engagement in international parliamentary diplomacy and its efforts to share experiences and strengthen cooperation with other member states of the IPU.
