Iranian Warship Saves Tanker from Somali Pirates

Iranian warships rushed to help the tanker which was attacked by pirates near the Mandeb Strait, Navy’s Deputy Commander Rear Admiral Seyyed Mahmoud Mousavi said on Saturday.
The naval forces opened timely, massive fire on pirate boats, he added.

Iran’s Navy has been conducting anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden since November 2008.
International Maritime Organization Secretary Described in May 2011 the anti-piracy efforts of Iran’s Navy as “effective”.
