Italian Embassy in Mogadishu Suspends Issuance of Schengen Area Entry Visas

GOOBJOOG NEWS|NAIROBI: Italy has suspended applications for the Schengen entry visas in Mogadishu.

According to a statement from the Italian embassy in Mogadishu, all visa applications being processed in Mogadishu now remain frozen till further notice.

“Please be informed that the Embassy of Italy in Nairobi has suspended with immediate effect the issuance of entry Schengen visas for all those applications that are processed by the Embassy of Italy in Mogadishu,” the embassy said in a post on the social media platform X.

Applicants have been advised to seek more information from the Embassy of Italy in Nairobi.

The circumstances surrounding the suspension remain unclear. The Schengen area comprises 27 members states of the EU which are party to the Schengen Agreement.

A Schengen visa is an entry permit for non-EU nationals to make a short, temporary visit of up to 90 days in any 180-day period to a country in the Schengen area.
