Japan Pledges $37m to Somalia

Government of Japan has announced that it will provide financial support of $ 37 million to Somali federal government, according statement from office of Somali president.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who is attending African Union Summit in the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Abab met on Saturday Special Envoy of the Prime Minister Kawai Katsuyuki..

Both sides held talks on the bilateral relations and the on-going aid the government and people of Japan are providing to Somali government.

Kawai Katsuyuki. Announced that his government will be giving a new $37 US million funding package to improve the security situation in the country, as well rebuild the Police forces.

“Japan has committed to help government of Somalia to tackle the threat of threatening factors, crime and create a more peaceful and secure future” he said.

Since 2007, Japan has contributed about $340 million to the Federal Government of Somalia, out of which $60 million is directed to security.
