Joint forces advance to capture Barawe district
Federal government forces together with African Union peace-keeping troops have captured new areas under Barawe district in Lower Shabelle region.
The joint forces have advanced from Bulo-Marer district, one of the newly seized areas in the region after the second phase of operation Indian ocean launched.
Reports from the area states that Al-shabab withdrew from the captured areas before the joint forces reached the localities.
The governor of Lower Shabelle region Abdikadir Mohamed Noor Sidii told Goobjoog FM that SNA and AMISOM troops have advanced towards Barawe district adding that the forces will soon enter the town.
Barawe district has been a stronghold of Al-shabab since they were pushed out from the major cities of the country including Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.
The last few days the joint forces have captured Rage-Celle and Adale district in Middle Shabelle region.
