Jubbaland clearing Senate candidates ahead of tomorrow’s vote

GOOBJOOG NEWS|KISMAYO: Registration of candidates for the senate race is currently ongoing in Kismayo ahead of elections tomorrow as the southerly state aims to become the first to conduct the polls.

The State Indirect Elections Team (SIET) is today issuing out certificates to candidates who will contest for the first four seats. President Ahmed Madobe is yet to name candidates who will vie for the last four seats.

The following nine candidates will contest for the first four seats:

Seat 1: Abdullahi Islaahil Fartaag (current senator) and Ahmed Mohamed

Seat 2: Halimo Jamah Mohamed and Abdirizaq Mohamed Osman

Seat 3: Ilyas Badal Gaboose, Mohamed Ahmed Sayiid and Sharmake Mohamed Abdi

Seat 4: Iftin Hassan Iiman  (current senator) and Ibrahim Yaquub Ismail

The nine candidates will address the state parliament tomorrow morning ahead of the vote later in the day.
