Jubbaland Federal State assembly amends parts of its Constitution

Jubbbaland Somali Federal State assembly amended two articles of the state constitution at the request of state president Ahmed Madobe in Kismayo on this Sunday.

Articles 44 of the state constitution which only permitted one deputy president amended to two deputy presidents whereas article 45 which limited cabinet executives of the state to 15 members were amended to be decided by the political authority of the state.

The speaker of Jubbaland assembly House Abdi Mohmmad presided the meeting.  58 Members of the state assembly members voted for the proposed amendment, seven opposed and one mp abstained to vote.

The move comes amid comprehensive reconciliation and power sharing deal between Jubbaland state leadership and one of the tribes in region.
