Jubbaland Leaders in Luuq to Seek an End to Clan Conflicts

GOOBJOOG NEWS | KISIMAYO: A high-level delegation of Jubbaland leaders led by the state’s Deputy Prime Minister Mahamud Sayid Aden are in Luuq, Gedo region to mediate over inter-clan clashes that has so far claimed the lives of 30 people and injured others.

The delegation which includes MPs are echeduled to hold meetings with the Luuq district administration authorities and community elders in a bid to seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Jubbaland authorities have warned that those involved in instigating the inter-clan skirmishes will be arrested and charged.

The federal government of Somalia has also called for an immediate end to the clashes and instructed the Somali National Army to take action and restore calm in the area.

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre emphasized the need for dialogue and reconciliation to achieve peace warning that the clashes may be exploited by the Al-shabaab militant group to advance their course.

Jubbaland’s regional leader, Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe, also urged an end to hostilities, warning soldiers against taking sides in the conflict.
