Jubbaland president appoints Gedo military commander
President of Interim Jubba Administration Ahmed Mohamed Madobe named Abas Ibrahim Gurey as the new commander of IJA forces in Gedo region.
Through Presidential decree Madobe named Gurey Gedo commander and his assistant in a move seen as key to emboldening IJA soldiers in the fight against the militant group Al-Shabaab in the Gedo region.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony held in Kismayo, President Madobe pledged that his administration was determined to improving the security situation in the region despite threats from the al-Shabab fighters.
Last month, African Union and Somali troops rolled into Bardhere with ease after weeks of military buildup and airstrikes as the militant group Al-Shabaab fled the town effectively denying them one of their last revenue.
