Jubbaland presidential candidates union impose conditions to participate in the upcoming poll

Following the meeting of the Jubbaland Presidential candidates union and the IGAD delegates, the presidential candidates union has imposed strict conditions for the participation of Jubbaland elections.

The presidential candidates union of Jubbaland has submitted eight-points of the obligations to the delegation by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in order to participate in the upcoming poll.

The conditions they have submitted include:

1. Only genuine traditional leaders should select the member of the parliament.
2. Select only one candidate for each parliamentary seat.
3. The parliamentary committee should manage the presidential elections.
4. The election should be held in a neutral venue, such as the UN compound.
5. AMISOM troops should safeguard the venue as well as the candidates.
6. Presence of the federal government is necessary.
7. International observers are also needed.
8. Local and international media to be present as well

The candidates have urged the delegates to submit the requirements to the UNSOM, AU, the Arab League, the EU and all other concerned governments.

It is still unclear whether the current Jubbaland leaders will accept the conditions presented by the Jubbaland presidential candidates Union, as the Jubbaland election is at this time different from the other elections before.
