Jubbaland security forces confiscate foreign vessel

Security officers in Kismaayo are confiscated a foreign boat that was found to have crossed into Somali territorial waters after it has been washed up on Kismayo shore due to mechanical problem.

Jubbaland Police Commissioner, Hassan Kheyre confirmed to the media on Tuesday that the vessel is currently being held in Kismayo town.

“Comoros owned vessel was seized after it washed up by the Indian Ocean,” said Kheyre.

Kheyre said Jubbaland Coastal guards have managed to rescue 5 of the vessel’s crew who were stranded on board and brought them to safety.

He pointed out that the crew members are being admitted hospital where they are receiving treatment.

He said the Navy officers patrolling the Indian Ocean confiscated the boat.

There were previous incidents where fishing boats washed up on Somalia’s shores.
