Jubbaland to upgrade Waamo Stadium in Kismaayo
Waamo Stadium has finally been earmarked for an upgrade after the Interim Jubba administration pledged to renovate the Stadium .
The president of Jubbaland Ahmed Mohamed Madobe has said that his government plans to embark on a project to repair, refurbish and improve sports and social facilities within its jurisdiction.
The new developments come just a week after Jubbaland was defeated by Puntland state 3-5 on penalties in country’s first ever Inter-state football competition.
He also said he plans to establish a youth and talent empowerment framework so as to enable the state carry out its roles of supporting and nurturing talents among Jubbaland youth.
“We are in the process of improving our sports facilities for our youth to benefit from them. Soon we shall strike a deal,” Madobe said during the welcoming of Jubbaland team at Kismaayo airport.
Somalia had launched the first ever inter-state football tournament since after Somalia took the federal system just more than a decade ago.
The newly inaugurated inter-state football event is different from the regional football tournament that Somali Football Federation has been organising since 1972.
