GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister Hassan Moalim Mohamud, toured Dayniile district on Friday as the federal government intensified efforts to prepare Mogadishu residents for the city’s first direct local council elections.

The minister’s visit focused on evaluating the district’s logistical readiness and mobilizing citizens to participate in the polls. His outreach is part of a broader push by the administration to ensure that the transition to universal suffrage reaches all corners of the capital.

Addressing community members and local leaders, Hassan Moalim issued a clear reminder: eligible voters must obtain their voter cards before the December 25 deadline. He stressed that the card is the only legal means for citizens to exercise their constitutional right at the ballot box.

The minister described the upcoming shift to a “One Person, One Vote” system as a defining moment in Somalia’s political recovery, saying it represents the return of authority to ordinary citizens after decades of indirect selection.

“Restoring power to the people is a historic step towards building a transparent political system,” he said, noting that direct elections form the core of Somalia’s governance reforms by shifting accountability away from elites and back to voters.

Hassan Moalim reaffirmed that the DanQaran administration remains committed to widening political participation and ensuring that local councils reflect the will of the public. His tour of Dayniile, he added, was aimed at reinforcing both the legal right and civic responsibility of every resident to take part in the elections.

The government hopes that strong voter registration and turnout will bolster the legitimacy of the upcoming municipal councils and deepen Somalia’s ongoing transition toward democratic governance.
