KDF vehicle runs over IED in Lamu, deaths reported
GOOBJOOG NEWS | LAMU: A Kenya defense Forces (KDF) vehicle ferrying soldiers on patrol along the Milimani Baure road in Lamu, coastal Kenya ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Sunday afternoon.
Initial reports indicated that some of the soldiers who were aboard the military vehicle were killed during the incident.
In a statement released Monday, the Kenya Defence Forces confirmed the incident saying the injured were evacuated to Manda Base Hospital for medical care.
“KDF condemns the criminals who disrupt movement, and sabotage socio-economic stability in the area. KDF calls upon the residents to share information with the security agencies on these criminal elements who lurk in their communities,” the statement further reads.
Suspected Al-shabaab militants have increased attacks inside Kenyan territory targeting security officers on patrol along the Kenya-Somali border which has killed several security officers over the past months.
Kenyan forces are part of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) which has been working with the Somali security forces in fighting the Al-shabaab militants and stabilizing several parts of the country which have been liberated from the militants.
