GOOBJOOG NEWS | NAIROBI: A Kenyan police officer serving in Haiti under the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) was killed in a road accident, Kenya’s police said on Monday.

The crash occurred on Sunday evening in Pétion-Ville, near Port-au-Prince, when two armoured vehicles collided during a towing operation, the National Police Service (NPS) said in a statement.

Two civilians also died, while eight MSS officers were injured, three of them seriously. The injured are receiving hospital care, authorities said.

“The National Police Service extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and relatives of the fallen officer and assures them of our unwavering support during this time of profound sorrow,” the statement said.

Arrangements are being made to repatriate the officer’s body to Kenya. The MSS, working with Haitian police, continues to provide support to those injured.

Kenya deployed police officers to Haiti earlier this year to lead the UN-backed mission aimed at stabilising the Caribbean nation, which has been wracked by gang violence.
