Kenya Deploys Additional Security Forces to Mandera to Counter Al-Shabaab Threats

Storyline:World

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MANDERA: The Government of Kenya has reinforced security operations in Mandera County with the deployment of additional police units, following a rise in Al-Shabaab-related incidents along the border with Somalia.

Security officials confirmed that the reinforcements will work closely with local teams to prevent further attacks and safeguard residents.

The move comes in response to recent assaults on civilians and the abduction of a county government vehicle, incidents authorities have linked to armed groups operating from across the border.

The newly deployed officers have been assigned to conduct joint patrols, man checkpoints, and intensify surveillance along major transport routes where threats remain high. Security sources added that expanded bases and new outposts have been established to counter fears of cross-border incursions.

Kenya has previously carried out large-scale operations against Al-Shabaab in its northeastern region, but officials caution that the militants continue to exploit remote areas to stage sporadic raids. The latest deployment reflects Nairobi’s determination to strengthen stability, reassure communities, and deny safe havens to terrorist groups.
