Kenya endorsed a seat at the UN Security Council
Kenya has been nominated as the African candidate for UN Security Council seat after defeating Djibouti in the second round of voting at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa.
A committee of envoys representing member states of the AU headquarters, officially known as the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) made the decision in a secret ballot.
Kenya received 37 votes, Djibouti 13 for a seat at the UN Security Council from 2021-2022.
Kenya will now contest at the United Nations for a one-year non-permanent seat in elections slated for next year in June.
