GOOBJOOG NEWS | NAIROBI: The Kenyan parliament Tuesday begun sitting to debate a motion to impeach the country’s deputy president Rugathi Gachagua.

Gachagua is however expected to appear before the country’s parliament defend himself against the motion tabled before the house by Kibwezi West Member of Parliament Mwengi Mutise.

House speaker Moses Wetangula last week notified the house of the motion which is pegged on 11 grounds for the impeachment.

On Tuesday, following the Kenyan parliament’s standing orders, the mover of the motion spent at least one hour to present the grounds before the members debated the motion.

Previously on Monday evening, Gachagua addressed journalists at the Deputy President’s residence in Nairobi where he vowed to fight the impeachment motion which he said was politically instigated.

The 11 grounds for his impeachment include claims that Gachagua had a hand in the anti-government protests that rocked the country three months ago.

Other grounds include; corruption allegations, tribalism and insubordination the president by making comments contradicting those made by the head of state and undermining cabinet decisions.
