Kenya on high alert following warnings of an imminent terror attack

GOOBJOOG NEWS/NAIROBI: Kenya has beefed up its security following terror alerts issued by several embassies  including the US, UK, French, Dutch, and German embassies, warning of a possible terror attack in the country. 

The US Embassy had issued a terror alert in Kenya, urging vigilance in public places hours after the government announced heightened security to forestall any terror threat.

This comes after the Dutch, German, French and UK consulates in the country issued a similar warning on Thursday, January 27.

The French government described the threat as a “real risk”, warning its nationals and Kenyans at large to exercise caution.

The Dutch Embassy also asked its citizens in the country to exercise precaution saying information issued by the French government is credible.

The Kenyan government has responded by heightening security across the country especially in big cities.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has also met with top internal security officials at State House to address the serious threat posed by terrorists.

Although none of  the foreign missions specified the terrorist organization that could be planning an attack, Kenya has suffered a brunt of attacks from Al-Qaeda-linked jihadist group Al-Shabaab, since the country launched a military offensive against the terror group in 2011 in an intervention dubbed “Operation Linda Nchi”.
