Kenya Targets Ksh1 Trillion Tourism Contribution Through Tatler Africa Partnership
GOOBJOOG NEWS | NAIROBI: Kenya is seeking to raise tourism’s contribution to the economy to KSh1 trillion as the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) partners with Tatler Africa to showcase the country’s tourism offering to global audiences.
Under a three-year partnership, KTB will bring the inaugural Tatler Best of Africa event to Kenya and host the Tatler Africa office on the continent.
Kenya Tourism Board CEO June Chepkemei said the partnership would provide a platform to promote Kenya internationally and drive demand for businesses and facilities across the tourism sector, including hotels, lodges, tour operators and other tourism enterprises.
Kenya’s tourism proposition includes its internationally recognised safari and conservation experiences, Indian Ocean coastline, private retreats, hospitality, cuisine, culture, fashion, art and creative industries.
Over the three-year period, KTB will use the platform to increase Kenya’s visibility among international audiences and create opportunities for businesses and professionals across the tourism value chain, including hotels, lodges, tour operators, designers, chefs, artisans and creatives.
REGIONAL TOURISM HUB
Kenya is one of East Africa’s leading tourism destinations, with a tourism industry built around its wildlife reserves, beaches, cultural attractions and established hospitality infrastructure.
Its location, international air connections and tourism facilities have also made Kenya an important gateway for visitors travelling to other destinations in the region. Nairobi serves as a major aviation and business hub, while the country’s coast and wildlife destinations attract visitors from across Africa and international markets.
Kenya’s tourism sector has traditionally been closely associated with wildlife safaris in destinations such as the Maasai Mara, Amboseli and Tsavo, alongside beach tourism along the Indian Ocean coast. In recent years, the country has also sought to broaden its appeal through cultural tourism, culinary experiences, conservation, wellness, luxury accommodation and the creative economy.
The sector is an important source of foreign exchange and supports employment and businesses across accommodation, transport, food services, entertainment and other parts of the economy.
The new partnership comes as Kenya seeks to build on that established position and use international platforms to promote a broader range of tourism products and experiences.
Chepkemei said hosting the inaugural Tatler Best of Africa event would mark an African first and give Kenya an additional platform to showcase its tourism proposition while supporting demand across the sector.
