Kenya’s majority leader dismisses claims of Somali citizenship
Kenya’s majority leader in the National Assembly Aden Duale has dismissed claims he owns a Somali passport amid reports the country’s investigative agencies are probing lawmakers over dual citizenship claims.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission in Kenya is investigating 10 lawmakers who came under suspicion.
“It is a matter of public notoriety that I am a proud Kenyan citizen and I do not hold dual citizenship and I have never held citizenship of another country and will never do,” Duale said.
Some of the most related MPs for this issue include Safia Sheikh Adan, Adan Barre Du’ale, Yusuf Hassan Abdi, Adan Haji Ali, Mohamed Dahir, Mohamed Garane and others.
The Ethics Commission noted MPs who will be found to be dual citizens will lose their jobs as the law prohibits them from allegiance to other countries.
