Kenyan troops pull out of Bardhere town two years after capture

Kenyan troops have pulled out of Bardhere town in Gedo region two years after it wrestled it from Al-Shabaab control.

Goobjoog News correspondent in the town reports the troops moved out this morning heading towards the border town of El-Wak which situates between Kenya and Somalia.

“KDF troops are moving out of Bardhere and the forces are heading to El-Wak. There are fears among locals Al-Shabaab could come back,” our correspondent said. Gedo deputy commissioner¬†Ismail Sheikh Abdiqorah confirmed the withdrawal but noted Ethiopian and Somali forces were in control.

Kenya Defence Forces captured Bardhere town, one of Al-Shabaab remaining revenue source in July 2015.
