GOOBJOOG NEWS|NAIROBI: The body of a missing Kenya Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) returning officer known as Daniel Mbolu Musyoka has been found in Kajiado, an hour’s drive from the Nairobi cbd.

Mr Musyoka, who was serving as returning officer at Embakasi East polling station in Nairobi county,  went missing three days before the announcement of the country’s presidential election results scheduled for 14th August.

On Monday evening, police officers from Loitoktok, Kajiado South sub-county were alerted to the presence of the body of a middle aged man at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro by herders. The body was reportedly dumped into the valley of a dry seasonal river, a notorious dumping site for murder victims.

According to Loitoktok police boss Kipruto Ruto,  the body was naked, though the man’s clothes — a track suit and a Maasai shuka — were found at the edge of the valley.

Speaking to Nation Africa, Mr. Ruto said that no identification documents were recovered near the man’s body, and that it was evident that the victim was killed elsewhere and the body dumped in the valley.

“The body has scars indicating torture before death. He possibly died a painful death,” said Ruto.

This is not the first time an IEBC official has been killed in Kenya. During the 2017 general elections, another official, Chris Musando, who was in charge of Kenya’s computerised voting system, was found severely tortured and strangled to death, on eve of vote.
