Kenyan security forces mount search for Al-Shabaab fighters who attacked police post in Wajir
Security forces in Kenya are pursuing Al-Shabaab militants who made away with police vehicle and motor during the Sunday morning attack on police station in Diif Town, Wajir South in Wajir County in which three police officers were injured.
The officers at Diff police camp tried to repulse the attackers but they were outnumbered by the Al-Shabaab fighters who managed to get inside the station, according the police.
“They met stiff resistance but they managed to snatch the camp’s land cruiser to take their casualty,” Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet said, adding that three officers had sustained slight injuries.
According to a statement from the Kenya police service, the police officers fought the attackers for nearly two hours until 5 am.
It highlights that Al-Shabaab escaped after burning some structures, including a Chief’s kiosk within the town.
In 2014, two police officers were seriously injured, after al-Shabaab fighters attacked Fino police station in Mandera county.
Also in Mandera County in December 2015 two police officers including a senior officer were killed by the militants after being ambushed along the Laffey-Elwak road.
The militants say they target the Kenyan security forces as part of efforts to push them to pull out of Somalia. KDF went to Somalia in 2011 before being rehated to AMISOM in February 2012..
