Leaders of South Sudan to Meet on Monday in Nairobi
The leader of the opposition Sudan Liberation Movement, Riek Machar, and the President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir, will meet in Nairobi on Monday to end the civil conflict.
According to Nyamilepedia news website, Machar will travel to Kenyan´s capital Nairobi for the third round of the face-to-face meeting with Kiir, in an effort coordinated by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
The two main protagonists of the South Sudan conflict met last month in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the first time since July 2016 after clashes between forces loyal to each.
They met again two days later in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.
A South Sudan´s official told Nyamilepedia today that the two leaders will discuss the remaining issues about governance and the number of states according to the peace proposal presented previously.
From Khartoum, it was also known on Friday that South Sudan’s government and the opposition have already signed a security agreement with the aim of ending years of war, under the auspices of Sudan’s President, Omar Al-Bashir.
The agreement was signed by the South Sudanese Minister of Information, Michael Makuei, and the representatives of the opposition groups, in the presence of diplomatic presence and media coverage.
