At least 855 people in hospital countrywide over cholera outbreak
At least 855 people are undergoing treatment in various medical facilities in the country as cholera spread persists compounding an already dire situation months into a deadly drought.
Investigations by Goobjoog News rank Awdhile in Bay region as the most affected with 180 people receiving treatment in medical centres followed by Gofgodud with 140 cases also in Bay region, south western Somalia.
Other areas in Bay region are Baydhabo (84), Qansadhere (80) and Bur hakaba with 50 cases.
Our correspondent in Gedo region also reports that medical facilities in Bardhere are currently treating 87 patients while in Galbahare there are 75 cases and 29 others in Burdhubo.
In Lower Shabelle region, Afgooye leads with 15 cases followed by Qoryole with 21 and Barawe 11.
Meanwhile medical officers in Middle Shabelle have registered 15 cases in Jowhar, 20 in Madhere while 13 other people are receiving treatment in Bal’aad.
No cases of cases of cholera outbreak in Hiiraan and Galdgudud regions according to our investigations. In Galkaayo, 35 people are recuperating in hospital following the cholera outbreak.
Many other people have been treated and discharged, our correspondents note with most of the cases recorded in March.
