Six people killed in civilian clash with Al-Shabaab in Middle Shabelle
Six people have been killed and several others wounded after a clash between locals and Al-Shabaab militants erupted in the Middle Shabelle region.
Reports indicate that the fighting erupted between Al-Shabaab and armed residents in Adan Yabal district.
The clashes follows an Al-Shabaab attack on armed locals at Adan Yabal District in the southeastern Middle Shabelle region.
Somali government forces backed by African Union troops yesterday shored up support for the locals pushing back the militants.
Residents told Goobjoog News they lived in fear as the militants might make a come back in days ahead.
Al-Shabaab fighters have in recent days carried several attacks against the government forces in different parts of the country to recover new areas.
Civilians in the country have rarely launched armed resistance on Al-Shabaab, which carries out executions to impose its authority.
Despite being removed from most of its key strongholds in the south and central Somalia, Al-Shabaab continues to launch deadly guerrilla attacks against the Somali government and African Union forces in some parts of the country.
