GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The lower house has agreed to accelerate key legislative work after Speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe) chaired the 17th meeting of the Standing Committee on Thursday, setting priorities aimed at strengthening parliamentary efficiency and government delivery during the ongoing 7th session.

The meeting, held at the Villa Hargeisa Leadership and Committees Headquarters, focused on streamlining the House of the People’s legislative agenda, with lawmakers reviewing pending draft laws and timelines for their passage.

In his opening remarks, the Speaker briefed committee members on the most critical bills before parliament, urging faster processing to ensure the legislature meets its constitutional responsibilities.

He said timely approval of legislation was essential to support governance reforms and national development efforts led by the federal government.

During the session, the Auditor of the House of the People, MP Mohamed Abdullahi Hassan (Nuuh), administered the oath of office to Ayub Ismail Yusuf, the newly nominated Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing, formally clearing him to assume office and reinforcing executive continuity.

Committee members also received updates from parliamentary sub-committees on the status of draft legislation, including remaining procedural steps and projected timelines for submission to the full plenary for debate and ratification.

The meeting concluded with the Standing Committee approving the agenda and work schedule for the 13th parliamentary week, a move officials said would ensure structured deliberations and steady legislative output in the weeks ahead.

Parliamentary leaders say the renewed legislative push is designed to reinforce institutional effectiveness, support government programmes and strengthen accountability as Somalia advances its state-building agenda.
