Lower House rubbishes claims of Jawari’s exit

The Lower House has dismissed claims Speaker Mohamed Jawari has resigned terming the allegations as falsehoods.

A statement from the office of the Secretary General Abdikarin Buhu rubbished the claims calling on the public to be wary of ‘such propaganda’.

Buhu was responding to reports in the social media that Jawari had resigned following President Mohamed Farmaajo’s intervention Friday which led to the cancellation of Saturday’s session amid an eminent political storm.

But Jawari welcomed the proposal of the President calling for unity and harmony among MPs. ““I have accepted the President’s proposals and we will issue a roadmap on the implementation of the issues raised later,” Jawari told reporters. “Let us talk to agree.”

President Farmaajo met the Federal Parliament leaders Friday night a day before an expected stand off after both Jawari and Ibrahim Mudey said they would convene the House Saturday with separate agenda.

By Thursday the country was staring at a crisis from Parliament as both Jawari and his deputy Ibrahim Mudey insisted they would recall MPs Saturday and hold parallel sittings after attempts to reconcile the two flopped.

“The Speaker is thankful to the people of Somalia for abiding by the law and respecting the supremacy of the law and the constitution,” Buhu added.
