Mahdi Omar Mumin appointed new Mogadishu police chief

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Somalia Police Chief Abdi Hassan Hijar has appointed Mahdi Omar Mumin as the new Commander of the Benadir regional police division.
Mumin’s appointment comes a few weeks after the death of the former Benadir police chief, Gen. Farhan Qarole, who was killed in an Al-Shabaab explosion during an operation in Bal’ad town, some 30km north of the Somali capital, casaMogadishu.
Farhan served in the past as the commander of the Haramcad brigade before he was appointed in April 2021 as the chief of the police force of the capital.
Following his death, the Somali Police Chief named the Headquarters of the Special Police Unit, “Haramcad,” as “Farhan Qarole,” in honor of Farhan’s legacy and heroic acts against Al-Shabaab.
