Major Roads in Mogadishu Sealed Off Following Al-Shabaab Attack

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Several major roads in Mogadishu were closed early Saturday morning as security forces blocked traffic following a deadly attack by the militant group Al-Shabab on the Godka Jilacow detention facility in the city’s Bondhere district.
Security officials say the decision to close key intersections is part of broader efforts to tighten control of vehicle movement and prevent further attacks. The affected areas include: Sanaa, Jardiinka, Siinaay, Foloranza, Aadan Adde, Howlwadaag, KPP, former National Fairgrounds and Taleex, Tarabuunka, Saybiyaano and Banaadir
The junctions have been sealed off with concrete barriers, rocks, and tires, while police and National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) officers patrol the sites, inspecting vehicles and questioning suspicious individuals.
The Godka Jilacow Attack
The road closures follows Saturday attack by Al-Shabaab on Godka Jilahow prison in Mogadishu which lasted into the night. The assault came just hours after the federal government reopened several roads in Mogadishu that had long been closed for security reasons. The government said all the seven militants were killed but the exact civilian casualties was not immediately clear.
The sudden road closures caused heavy traffic jams across the capital. Public transport and commercial vehicles struggled to move through the city, leaving many residents stranded or delayed on their way to work and school.
