Man Arrested in Mogadishu for Brutal Assault on Wife Days After Her Return from Europe

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali police have arrested a man accused of violently attacking his wife with a stone in Mogadishu’s Deyniile district, in a case that has shocked the public and prompted calls for justice.
The suspect, Mohamed Abdullahi Ali, was taken into custody after allegedly assaulting his wife, Khadro Abdullahi Mahmoud, who had returned to Somalia just a week earlier from the Netherlands. The attack left her with serious facial injuries.
Banaadir region police chief Mahdi Omar Mumin confirmed the arrest and said the suspect will be charged in court.
“We will ensure the law is enforced. Violence against women is a criminal act and will not be tolerated,” he stated.
Police reports indicate that the assault took place following a series of threats the suspect made against the victim. The attack, carried out using a heavy stone, was widely condemned after graphic images of Khadro’s injuries circulated on Somali social media.
“The investigation is ongoing. We are committed to holding perpetrators accountable,” said an officer familiar with the case.
Authorities say the incident is part of a disturbing rise in domestic violence cases in the country.
The Deyniile arrest has reignited debate about women’s safety and the urgent need for stronger legal protection.
