Man stabs ex-wife to death, tries to commit suicide in Southern Somalia
A middle age man has stabbed his ex-wife to death before trying commit suicide, witnesses said.
The incident occurred on Monday night at Garas Bintow village in Lower Shabelle region.
Neighbours say that Mother-of-three, Sofia Farah Qassim, 35, was stabbed several times by the ex-husband identified as Libaan Hassan Barow.
“The man is believed to have stabbed his ex-wife to death before he tried to kill himself. The woman who was pregnant had several stab wounds on her body, which may have resulted to her death,”said the witness.
Witnesses said Barow who was a casual labourer in a neighbouring well, had stabbed the woman in the chest before he attempted to suicide.
“Barow killed the woman, it was at that point that he drew the knife and stabbed himself in the left side of the chest,” said the witness, adding that the man collapsed.
Relatives said that the two who have been married for over three years had been embroiled in domestic differences which led to their separation before the woman married another man.
Barow had divorced his former partner some three years ago.
“Though the man sometimes used to visit the woman’s house and has discussion some issues on their two children, I never thought he would go to this extent,” a close relative said.
