Man to Face Death for Spying for Al-Shabaab as Military Court Upholds Lower Court Verdict in Puntland

GOOBJOOG NEWS/GAROWE: A military court in Puntland has sentenced a man accused of spying for Al-Shabaab and killing four people to death upholding an earlier sentence by a lower court.

The Military Appeals Court upheld the lower court’s ruling which was delivered in September last year condemning the 50 year-old man identified as Abdisalan Salad Shuayb to death.

The court declared Shuayb guilty for passing information to Al-Shabaab which resulted to the killing of four people in Mudug region among the an federal immigration officer, a well known peace activist and a prominent businessman.

The court also handed varying sentences to three other Al-Shaaab suspects. Abukar Sheikh Mohamud was jailed for 15 years while Mohamed Deeq Salad Abdi got 20 years and Ismail Daoud Jirow to 30 years in prison.
